Heritage Festival returns to Lambeth

This year, the festival is focusing on the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

Why not visit our Archives Open Day on Saturday 27 September. Here we will tell stories from different perspectives – from the local volunteer force to the story of the conscientious objectors. We will look at stories of local men who died and are commemorated on the Stockwell War Memorial and the considerable contribution to the war effort made by the black community of the time. In the afternoon, join our family event, and help us to create a poppy chain of remembrance to pay tribute to loved ones and those who gave their lives in the first World War.

Other highlights include:

  • Watch the film classic, For King and country (1964) Tuesday 2 September, Minet Library, 6.30 to 9pm
  • Take part in the workshop Tracing your First world War military ancestors Thursday 11 September, Clapham Library, 2 to 4pm
  • Tour the new Black Cultural Archives heritage centre  Tuesday 16 September, Brixton, 11am, 2pm and 3pm

Although events are free, booking is required for some. You can get full details of all the events by downloading our brochure here
