The Bowler wins Lambeth Country Show food trader award 2015

We’re pleased to announce the winners for the Lambeth Country Show Food Trader Award 2015 were Lewis Parsons and his team at The Bowler.

Their original menu of meatballs and vegballs, served fresh from their eye-catching grass-covered van, really stood out from others at the show. And they ticked almost every box with their seasonal menu, using Fairtrade and free range where possible. The judges were delighted by the Thai Chicken balls, packed full of flavour and served with steamed wild rice, sweet chilli jam, crispy shallots, homemade slaw and fresh herbs. The Mayor of Lambeth, Cllr Donatus Anyanwu and Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, Cllr Jennifer Brathwaite, presented them with their certificate.

Highly commended - A favourite of the judges and so close second, came Monica Brown at Happy Herefords for their delicious hand-made burgers. All of Monica’s pigs and cows are free range, naturally reared and grass-fed on her farm near Milton Keynes. Priced from just £3.50 burger, Monica firmly believes everyone should have access to good food.Highly commended - Crepe Expectations who use organic British flour and a range of Fairtrade drinks at very reasonable prices.

About the Food Trader Award

Lambeth Council and the Lambeth Food Partnership launched this year’s first ever Food Trader Award at the Lambeth Country Show. The aim of the award is to get traders thinking conscientiously about their food and where it comes from, but also to recognise those who are already doing this. Judges visited over 50 stalls at the Show, awarding points for menus using healthy, seasonal, fresh and local ingredients. They also looked at presentation and the use of Fairtrade, free range and organic products.

As a ‘Food Flagship’ borough, Lambeth is committed to raising the profile of healthy, sustainable food. We aim to build on our famous markets, schools, community gardens and small food businesses to make Lambeth the go-to destination in London for diverse, healthy and exciting food. Our vision is for all Lambeth residents to have the knowledge, passion and skills to grow, buy, cook and enjoy food with their family, friends and community.
