This will be focused on providing activities for children during the school holidays, with the Summer Reading Scheme and weekly under-5s sessions.

There will also be a self-service book lending service for adults as well as IT facilities.  The library space be open for the following hours:

  • Monday – 2 to 5pm
  • Tuesday – 10am to 12.30pm
  • Wednesday – Closed
  • Thursday – 2 to 5pm
  • Friday – 10am to 1pm
  • Saturday – 9 to 11.30am
  • Sundays – Closed

Library staff will be on site during all these times.

The building currently includes the home library service, alongside the council’s Archives Service.

The temporary activity will be in place while the council is due to make a decision on the future location of the Archives service in the next few weeks. This follows a detailed review by independent consultants of a shortlist of options and a consultation process with local historical groups.

The review was set up following the Council’s ‘Culture 2020’ strategy which highlighted that the current location is limited in space and relatively inaccessible to many residents.
