Stockwell Festival is back – bigger, brighter and better than ever – after a two-year break – making this the 15th festival since it started in 2000.
Stockwell together in music
Expect to meet thousands of local residents in a colourful community celebration based around the theme of ‘Stockwell Together’ – with the strength and diversity of the neighbourhood expressed through the wide range of live music – reggae, fado, pop, jazz, samba and soul –performed on the solar-powered M stage.
Street food and food stalls
The same multicoloured theme is captured in the street food available in the market – Italian, Vegan, Portuguese and more, with bars from Brixton Brewery and Divine Wine. Diversity and in the dance displays and workshops, including swing, Zumba, tango, and streetdance.
Art for everyone
Artists there to help inspire people to create will include junk modelling from the Remakery and mosaics with Art4Space. You can learn the art of Polish decorative paper cutting, signmaking and handcrafted bunting.
Pedals, pigs and paints
Activities for children include free pedal carts from Oasis and a show about building, based on the Three Little Pigs, from the Science Museum, as well as stories and facepainting.
… and for adults, too
Sports and hobbies for children and adults include G-Tennis, Football with Big Kid Foundation, gardening with the Larks and flower arranging.
Community groups
There’ll be a community action zone for charities and local groups to raise awareness of their campaigns, raise funds, or recruit volunteers – those taking part include Friends of the Earth and Lambeth Healthwatch.
Supporting Stockwell
The festival this year is funded by Big Lottery Communities Fund, Lambeth Forum Network, LEAP (Lambeth Early Years Action Partnership) and Coopers of Stockwell.
You’ll be amazed at how many different things are happening – but after all, this is Stockwell – you need to try it all.
