For Pride Month, Lambeth Archives are hosting SHARE YOUR PRIDE – an exhibition of photos, banners, flyers, badges, slogans & memories from the 12 Pride Marches (including EuroPride & Black Pride) that happened in Lambeth in the 1980s and 1990s.
Lambeth are proud to be working in partnership with Independent Creative Practitioner Dan de la Motte, who will curate the exhibition.
Word from the Cabinet
Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities., said: “We are proud to host this celebration in Lambeth Archives of the LGBTQ+ community and allies – a community that came together in Lambeth for Pride, filling our green spaces with pink triangles & rainbow flags in Jubilee Gardens, Kennington Park, Brockwell Park and Clapham Common.”
Show us your Pride
Are you (or were you then?) an LGBTQ+ Lambeth resident who took part in any Pride Marches (and/or parties in the park after the march) in Lambeth? Did you go to Pride in London, UK Black Pride, Night Pride or EuroPride, which started in Brockwell Park in 1992.
What are your memories of Prides past? Have you still got any souvenirs or mementos? Have you still got the outfit you wore? Do you have any photos to share? We want to hear from you. We need to collect memorabilia in May for the exhibition in June.
Donation and collection of Pride stories
Want to be part of the exhibition? Please come to one of our Donation and Stories events on Sat 3 May – an opportunity for you to loan (or gift) your Pride-related item(s) to Lambeth Archives for the June exhibition or to strengthen Lambeth Archives’ LGBTQ+ Pride collection.
These sessions will be group-facilitated in a way which allows us to collect the first-hand stories and memories that go with your memorabilia, And of course, you’ll be invited to the exhibition’s Opening Night Party
