Consultations - Focus on Brixton - Housing and planning

A six-week consultation has been launched on the designation of a Brixton Neighbourhood Forum and Neighbourhood Area , which would give local people more influence over planning and development. This includes shaping policies, identifying priorities, and helping guide future growth in a way that reflects the community’s needs.

Consultation launched on designation of a Brixton Neighbourhood Forum and Neighbourhood Area

The proposed area covered by the forum overlaps with the existing Tulse Hill and Herne Hill designated neighbourhood areas, and the council will consider whether to amend these as part of the decision-making process following the consultation, which will run for 6 weeks from Monday 8 September to Friday 24 October 2025.

The consultation is the next stage in the decision-making process that follows a formal application received on 16 April 2025.

In determining whether to designate an organisation as a neighbourhood forum, planning officers are required to consider whether the organisation’s membership is drawn from different places in the neighbourhood area and from different sections of the community. The neighbourhood forum’s purpose should also reflect the character of that area.

Further details have been published on the council’s consultation website.

Next Steps

Following consultation, council officers will consider all representations received prior to making a decision on the application. The council is required to make a decision within 13 weeks of publicising the application.
