Coldharbour’s Corner Surgery Crowdfunder Success

Latest project to gain matchfunding from Lambeth Crowdfunder to add to the total raised through community crowdfunding is The Corner Surgery Wellbeing Gardening Sessions. The Surgery asked local people to dig in for £2,000 to enable patients to continue to experience weekly gardening sessions that mprove their health and wellbeing.

Part of the Co-op

The Surgery is a relatively small GP surgery in a deprived area of SE London, Coldharbour Lane. In 2014 they joined the Lambeth GP Food Coop  which builds gardens for GP surgeries where patients garden and grow vegetables together. Over the years, patients with mental health issues and various physical disabilities have clearly benefited from gardening sessions.

Overcoming isolation

Gardening sessions at the Corner Surgery help patients with physical and mental wellbeing

However, sadly, the initial funding has diminished and the vision moving forward was to pay a professional gardener to run the sessions and buy supplies, tools and general upkeep.to continue the weekly sessions for patients, so that those in most need of this community service can avoid feeling isolated and alone.

Targets hit

The campaign ran for 85 days and successfully raised £2,235 with 48 supporters, reaching its target on Valentine’s Day. Lambeth added in £902. The extra money can now be spent on flowers, seeds, compost, a water butt, tools and additional labour to help continue the gardening sessions and develop patients’ wellbeing.

Crowdfund Lambeth is a platform to support community projects making our borough a unique place to live, work, learn and do business. The project must demonstrate that it has strong local support shown through a vibrant crowdfunding campaign.
