‘Meet the emergency services’ day in Windrush Square

“Whilst community engagement events are quite common, this is the first time in my 22 years’ service we have held a joint emergency services event in Brixton town centre. Having attended various similar events I know how appreciative the community always are to have us on hand to ask all those burning questions about what it is like to be a police officer!

Bikes, horses, cars and more!

We have free bike marking, first aid demonstrations, career advice, Police horses, vintage Police cars and more on site. London Fire Brigade (LFB), London Ambulance Services (LAS), Lambeth Police, Police Horses, Police Cadets and the Territorial Army will all contribute.

Community questions

This event allows all in the community to come along and chat to representatives from all of the emergency services; something they may not usually have much opportunity to do. As the Community Liaison Officer at Lambeth, I come into contact with various people from all walks of life and attend various events throughout the year. I also visit community centres within the borough and I am frequently asked questions about our emergency services. So this is an opportunity for the community to meet these services and ask them lots of questions. I know the LFB are excited about this event and will be giving advice and also a few surprises!

Key messages

Our key messages for this year are that the Police will continue to engage and work together with the Community and partners and we hope to continue this process. LFB will be issuing advice on smoke alarms / detectors and also answering questions on jobs and recruitment; as will the police. We hope to see you there!

Bigger next time?

If this event is a success we will hope to hold a much larger event during summer 2018. But before then I will be holding various events to engage with the community throughout the borough.
