Lambeth boosts play facilities at Max Roach Park

Work will start shortly on installing three new pieces of play equipment for younger children at Max Roach Park, on Villa Road.

The £46,000 scheme will replace some of the existing old equipment with a new Quad Climber, a “Hop and Climb”, and a new set of swings, for children aged between 4 -7 years.

The upgrade was given the go-ahead after the previous equipment had reached the end of its service life, and replacement was recommended. The total budget will be met through “Section 106” funding – a levy paid by developers behind large-scale building projects across the borough.

Word from the Cabinet

Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Leisure, and Sports, said: “Lambeth is proud of its network of parks and green spaces and we’re doing everything we can to invest in them for the good of the whole community.

“I’m particularly proud of our playgrounds, that allow our children to have fun, explore, and enjoy the freedom to play safely. I’m delighted that we’ve been able to make these improvements to Max Roach Park and I know all the local children will love playing on this new equipment for years to come.”

The contract for the upgrade was awarded to Sutcliffe Play Ltd, following a formal evaluation and financial scrutiny. They are scheduled to start work on site during the week beginning October 6, with construction expected to take between three and five weeks.
