At Oval Village Cllr Holland and Bridget Phillipson met local apprentices working on a Berkeley Group housing development to hear about their experiences and to celebrate their achievements.
Lambeth has more than 1,000 apprentices in the borough developing their careers in a range of industries, including Nylah Achampong, 18, from Clapham who spoke about her experiences on Monday.
Nylah, who went to La Retraite Sixth Form in Clapham Park is currently a Level Four apprentice in construction, design and building with the Berkeley Group at the Oval Village development.
She said: “The experience has been great, and I feel like I am learning new things every day. I love how hands on this apprenticeship is, and seeing this site project come together has been amazing. If I pass my Level Four I want to go on and do the Level Six apprenticeship which will be the equivalent to having a degree. It’s a great opportunity for me.”
Local people from Lambeth can apply for apprenticeship opportunities in the borough via be.lambeth.gov.uk/.
Cllr Holland, said: “I was delighted to join the Sec of State Bridget Phillipson and the Berkeley Group in Lambeth to mark the start of National Apprenticeship week. It was a chance to show off our brilliant apprentices and celebrate their achievements.
“Here in Lambeth we have a relentless focus on ensuring our young people can get the best start in life, and we can only achieve that as a council by working with partners across the borough. Todays visit to the Berkeley Homes development in Oval is a good example of that.”
