Lambeth Council launches its Social Care Academy

The Social Care Academy will offer learning and development opportunities to all Children’s social care staff at Lambeth, including students and those in leadership positions.

The training will range from core training to targeted and specialist training. It will support new ways of working while also embedding Lambeth’s Practice Model.

By setting up a Social Care Academy, we hope to encourage best practice, offering children and families the best support possible. It will also offer a clear and transparent process of social work progression and career pathway.

Cllr Ben Kind, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “Following the result of our latest Ofsted (The Office for Standards in Education) inspection, this Social Care Academy is a crucial step in making sure our improvement journey continues at pace. We want Lambeth to be the best place for children and young people to grow up, but we also want to make sure our staff feel fulfilled and supported.

The Academy will make sure that we are offering our staff excellent development opportunities and the chance to grow at Lambeth. It will act as a place where staff can explore new ways of working, continue to be creative, and where successful practices can be recognised and embedded.”

On 16 December 2022 Lambeth Ofsted, found the council’s Children’s Services to be ‘requires improvement to be good’ but on the road to improvement. The council has successfully secured Department for Education funding complete to the project.
