Lambeth: Countdown to local elections officially begins

An election will be held for all councillors in each of Lambeth’s 25 electoral wards, on Thursday 7 May. Each ward will elect either 2 or 3 Councillors.

The notice of election sets out a number of key dates and deadlines for voters and potential candidates, including:

  • Thursday 9 April: The last day for submitting nominations. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer at Lambeth Town Hall, no later than 4pm.

  • Thursday 7 May: Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election, on the grounds of physical incapacity, work, or due to the loss, theft, destruction or damage of required photo ID, must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm. To apply to vote by emergency proxy, the applicant must have become aware of the reason that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026.

Further details on these local elections, including voting details, polling stations and the key dates, are available from the Voting and elections pages on the Lambeth Council website.

The site also provides a useful run-down of the identification details all voters will need to bring with them in order to be able to vote at these elections. Under the Elections Act 2022, all polling-station voters must present a form of accepted Voter ID to receive their ballot paper.

Accepted documents include a passport issued by UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, EU/EEA state or Commonwealth country, a driving licence (or provisional driving licence) issued by UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or EU/EEA state, a Blue Badge or Older Person’s Bus Pass.

The full list of accepted ID documentation is available on the council website.
