Lambeth Council has announced that a by-election will be held on Thursday, 5 October in the borough’s Vauxhall ward. The by-election follows the loss of Councillor Liam Jarnecki who passed away in August following a long battle with illness.

Nominations for candidates seeking to stand in the poll are now open, ahead of a closing deadline of 4pm on Friday, 8 September.

Lambeth Council’s chief executive Bayo Dosunmu will be the Returning Officer for the by-election.

This will be the first election in Lambeth where new national Voter ID rules introduced by the Government will apply.

It means voters will need to show photographic ID to vote in person at polling stations at this by-election. For more information on this visit lambeth.gov.uk.

For residents who don’t have photo ID there is a Voter Authority Certificate that can be applied for from the Government at www.gov.uk.
