In response Lambeth Council has been working closely with the London Fire Brigade and the Police at the scene to support local people.
Cllr Jim Dickson, Lambeth Council’s Cabinet member for Healthier Communities, said: “The advice to local residents remains to keep windows and doors closed. The fire brigade are continuing to dampen the fire and seeking specialist equipment as their work continues.
“Fire service and council representatives are going door to door, offering people help and advice.
“It could be another 24-hours before things change. In response we are seeking to make arrangements for a respite room away from the fire, particularly for those who have particular health problems.”
