Lambeth increases SEND funding by over £7million

Special schools, resource bases and mainstream schools will receive the funds to expand their offer and accommodate more students.

Councillor Ben Kind, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education said: “This latest phase of investment – worth around £2.5 million – brings our total capital commitment to improving SEND provision across Lambeth to nearly £10 million. It reflects our mission to make sure that children and young people with SEND across the whole Borough can access the right support, in the right setting and the right time – where possible in their local community.

These projects will deliver even more inclusive learning environments – but we know there’s more to do. These new places will help meet growing demand and reduce the need for out-of-borough placements that require longer journeys to school and can be disruptive for young people. I want to thank all the schools and partners who are helping us build a more inclusive borough, where every child has the chance to thrive.

As we look ahead, we’re also developing initial plans for the King’s Avenue School site following the merger of King’s Avenue Primary School with Glenbrook Primary School, which offers a major opportunity to expand high-quality SEND provision in Lambeth. This is part of our long-term commitment to strengthening inclusive education for years to come.”

Schools that have previously received funding include Richard Atkins Primary School, Platanos College, La Retraite RC Girls’ School, Allen Edwards Primary School, Lilian Baylis Technology School, Turney School, Livity School, Van Gogh Primary School, The Elmgreen School, Larkhall Primary School, Oasis Academy South Bank Primary School and Hitherfield Primary School.

The schools that have been awarded funding this year will be Henry Fawcett Primary School, Rosendale Primary School, Ark Evelyn Grace School, Walnut Tree Walk Primary School, Julian’s Primary School, Wyvill Primary School, Bishop Thomas Grant School, Jubilee Primary School, Streatham Wells Primary School and Sunny Hill Primary School.

The funding comes from the SEND High Needs Capital funding, a fund Lambeth receives from central government to support the provision of new places and improve existing provision.
