The council’s Parking Fraud Team won the title of Parking Team of the Year at the British Parking Awards, at a ceremony in London on 18 September. The award, open to teams working in both the public and private sectors, recognised “the excellent work of both on-street and off-street parking operations”.
The Lambeth fraud team helps ensure that Blue Badge bays, accessible parking spaces and parking concessions remain available for those who genuinely need them, supporting independence and accessibility across the borough.
Parking fraud, including the misuse of Blue Badges and permits, can have a significant impact on residents and visitors who rely on these essential provisions. Through intelligence-led investigations, partnership working and a commitment to fairness, the team has played a leading role in identifying and preventing fraudulent activity, helping to safeguard services and maintain public confidence in the parking system.
Cllr Ciara Alleyne, Lambeth Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency and Future Generations, said: “We’re doing everything we can to support legitimate blue badge users, by tackling those motorists who continue to try and abuse the system. This award is welcome proof that the hard work and commitment of our parking fraud team are having a real impact.
“Blue badge fraud is a national problem, but we’re determined to stamp it out here, because every time someone misuses a Blue Badge, the genuine badge holders are the ones that suffer. Tackling fraud like this is helping to make Lambeth a fairer place for all our residents.”
The British Parking Awards are an independent competition, created and presented by Parking Review magazine, and designed “to celebrate excellence and innovation across the parking sector”.
