Hundreds of Lambeth students celebrated with their loved ones and friends after securing the grades needed for their next step in their education or to enter the world of work.
T-level students at Lilian Baylis Technology School and La Retraite Roman Catholic Girls’ School gathered at the schools on 13 August to get their results as the BBC announced that top marks in the United Kingdom rose for a third year in a row,
T-levels are two-year courses that are equivalent in size to three A levels. They offer students practical and knowledge-based learning.
Nawal, who gained her T-level in Management and Admin at Lilian Baylis and will go onto study Accounting at Manchester Metropolitan University said: “I am happy with my results I did well and got a distinction! All that hard work and the 45 days in industry really paid off. I worked in internal communications at the Department for Education, and it was challenging, but I loved it.”
Lilian Baylis Technology School saw an increase in its results compared to last year, with all students taking A Level Art, Law, Portuguese, Spanish & Further Maths achieving an A*. 
Two-thirds of those taking T-levels achieved Merits or Distinctions and a 100 per cent pass rate.
Karen Chamberlain, Head Teacher at Lilial Baylis, said: “For UCAS, we had 62 per cent of students achieving their First-choice offer, with a further 21 per cent placed at their insurance choice or offered an alternative course to study by 10am, so 83 per cent already have places confirmed! The rest are in clearing or have not yet had their places confirmed, but all will be placed today and tomorrow and already have early offers to consider.”
Elsewhere, at La Retraite, Tiffany got a Distinction in her T-level in Construction. She said: “I’m excited, I got my offer in April, and I’ve been really looking forward to it, but I know I put a lot of effort into my studies, so I feel so proud of myself. Everyone at the school is very helpful, and we have so many resources”
“I also loved the placement as it really makes you stand out and it gives you an understanding of what you’re going to do in the future.”
She starts her apprenticeship with the Berkley Group, in Construction Management in September.
La Retraite also saw many distinctions in their Childcare T-levels. Fantasia and Grace, who are thrilled with their results, will be going to Kingston to study midwifery. Renise will be taking her T-level to Kingston too, but will be studying Social Work with the idea of going into Forensic Social Work.
At La Retraite, 92 students completed T-level programmes across seven pathways, with 76.8 per cent securing the higher grades of Merit or Distinction.
Cllr Alice Weavers, Cabinet Member for Children and Young people, said: “It’s brilliant to see so many young people are getting the results they need to pursue their future. I want to congratulate them on all the hard work they have put into achieving their goals.
“Teachers and carers also deserve a big thank you for the support they’ve given our young people during this exciting, but stressful time. I’m sure they’re all going to go on to do amazing things either in Lambeth, London and beyond.”
