Lambeth: Working with the community to make safer streets

The meeting will be led by Action on ASB, a residents group which has raised concern about the sale of drugs in the area and its knock on effects on local people and businesses in the town centre, including crime and anti-social behaviour.

The event is at Lambeth Town Hall from 7pm and residents who are interested in attending can sign up at www.eventbrite.com/. There will be community breakout groups during the evening when local people can share their views and highlight what their priorities for the area are.

Cllr Dr Mahamed Hashi, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, said: “It is clear there are serious issues of concern and it is important that we have an open and frank ongoing conversation about that. Lambeth Council is playing its role by investing in our streets and neighbourhoods.

“We’ve improved public lighting, put wardens on the streets, conducted regular weapons sweeps and undertaken reviews of hotspot areas to make our streets safer. But more must be done to tackle the anti-social behaviour issues that are impacting on our town centre and surrounds.

“We are determined to work with the police and community, to help ensure their efforts reflect local needs and address the issues that we know are impacting on our residents.”
