This is the fourth year of the Lambeth Youth Summit, which is organised by the Youth Council, a group of passionate young people who ensure the voices of young people are heard by leaders and policy makers.
The event is a key opportunity for young people in the borough to come together, take part in workshops, learn more about options for further education, hear from panelists and politicians, network and speak to others about their experiences.
Councillor Ben Kind, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “It’s brilliant to see so many young people coming together to share their ideas and speak up about what matters to them. Putting young people at the heart of what we do is essential if we want Lambeth to be the best place to grow up.
“Events like the Youth Summit show how much talent, energy and ambition there is among young people in our borough. I’m really proud of the Youth Council for leading the way and making sure young people’s voices are heard where decisions are made.
“Over the next year, we’re determined to build even stronger ways for young people to get involved and to shape the services and opportunities that affect them – from helping design our emerging 0-19 service for young people, to youth programmes and spaces. If you’re a young person with ideas, I’d say get involved, tell us what you think, and help us build a Lambeth that works for you.”
Councillor John-Paul Ennis, Policy Lead for Young People said: “As well as holding listening events to help shape our 0-19 offer, we are also really excited to hold elections for our new Youth Mayor this autumn. We will be working closely with the Youth Council to organise this, and I’m really excited to get involved and strengthen how we engage with Lambeth’s young people. I look forward to chatting to many of them and hearing their brilliant ideas.”
Alex McArthur-James and Ricardo Ennis, Lead Coordinators of the Lambeth Youth Council (LYC) and Gala Bella, Head of Communications, said: “The Lambeth Youth Summit was a proud display of youth leadership, planned and delivered by young people. In just a few weeks, we brought together 600 attendees, 10 Lambeth schools and over 40 brilliant organisations.
“The Youth Summit is a yearly highlight for the LYC team, and we’re proud of what we achieved in such a short time. Thank you to everyone who supported us, this summit reflects the ongoing, youth-led legacy of the Lambeth Youth Council.”
