The event, held in the Assembly Hall, was the first dedicated entirely to repairs and maintenance, giving residents the opportunity to talk face-to-face with council staff from across the Housing service and Lambeth’s contractor Wates Property Services (WPS).
Residents were able to discuss outstanding repairs, receive updates on existing jobs, and also had the chance to find out more about the services available to support them.
Pauline, a keen gardener from West Norwood, said:
“It made such a difference talking to an actual person, in the flesh. I spoke with a lovely young man who helped me with an ongoing drainage problem and booked me in for a visit on the spot.”
The Repairs Surgery was introduced following feedback from residents attending the council’s popular Meet the Landlord events, many of whom said they wanted more opportunities to speak directly with repairs staff and operatives.
Councillor Pete Elliott, Cabinet Member for Housing,
“I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to attend our first Repairs Surgery. Nearly 300 residents joined us, demonstrating just how important it is that we create opportunities for tenants and leaseholders to speak directly with the teams responsible for delivering repairs.
“Providing residents with a high-quality repairs service remains one of our top priorities. We know we haven’t always got it right, but this is just the start of being even more responsive and available to our residents by listening to and learning from their experiences, as we continue our journey of improvement.
“We look forward to welcoming even more residents to future sessions.”
- The next Repairs event will take place on Wednesday 28 October. Further details, including the venue and timings, will be shared with residents nearer the date.
