Lambeth’s Parks, Trees, and Bereavement teams’ working vehicle fleets have achieved the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) Bronze standard.
Driving up standards
FORS is a national accreditation scheme aiming to drive up standards across areas such as fuel efficiency, carbon emissions and road safety. Its goal is to set best practice standards within the transport sector. Lambeth’s new Fleet Management Team were able to successfully demonstrate that Lambeth vehicles met the targets set by the FORS accreditation across all areas of the service, from driver compliance to day-to-day operations.
Word from the Cabinet
Deputy Leader Cllr Rezina Chowdhury, cabinet member for Sustainable Lambeth and Clean Air, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved from managers, supervisors, and most importantly all our drivers involved in the operation of these fleets. I am delighted Lambeth Council has a vehicle fleet team who are committed to continually improving, reducing emissions and being more sustainable.”
Carbon neutral
The Fleet Management Team’s vehicle use strategy has been developed to support the council’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions. As the first London council to declare a climate emergency and commit to becoming carbon-neutral by 2030, Lambeth’s new vehicle procurement must explore environmental sustainability alongside value for money. Additionally, all third-party contracts that rely on fleet provisions must include a commitment relating to carbon neutrality – the FORS standard is one of these.
Modernise and manage
These carbon neutral targets make it the right time to modernise the fleet but also manage and operate in an environmentally friendly and safe way and manage Lambeth’s fleet to ensure the council continues to meet the changing demands of our thriving borough. Lambeth have set a target of achieving the FORS standard, following meeting the bronze level with aspirations to achieve the silver and gold standards with even more stringent targets to be met on environmental and safety measures.
