Cllr Jonathan Bartley, Lambeth’s Cabinet member for Safer, Thriving Neighbourhoods, said: “We know millions of people will be enjoying the World Cup over the coming weeks, whether supporting England or one of the many other countries taking part.
“But there is a darker side to major football tournaments. Time and again, the evidence shows that incidents of domestic abuse increase around big matches.
“We want anyone experiencing abuse to know that support is available and that they do not have to face it alone. We also want people who are concerned about their own behaviour towards a partner, ex partner or family member to seek help.
“Football should bring people together. There is never an excuse for abuse.”
