New Brixton Hub offers women better contraception choices

From February, the LARC Hub Service moves to Brixton. The service opens this week to provide the health services the women of Lambeth asked for.

Word from the Cabinet

Cllr  Jacqui Dyer, Lambeth’s Cabinet member for Healthier Communities, said: “In July 2023, Lambeth asked people in the borough how we could improve contraception services. The most-needed changes were more appointments available for coil and implant fittings, appointments and consultations available outside of traditional clinic hours and easy and clear booking systems”.

“Workshops with Black African and Black Caribbean young adults from Lambeth were also part of the information gathered and revealed the need for more trusted information and conversations about contraception”.

“Many people also said they wished more GPs would offer contraception services, as they prefer this to going to a sexual health clinic.  Local clinicians also highlighted the need for a local training programme for GPs and nurses.”

Improved offer

Since 2023 we have been working to improve the contraception offer across Lambeth. Including increasing appointments available at the weekends.  We have also made coil appointments available for HRT treatment and for non-contraceptive reasons at the GP. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the GP Federation for its partnership work on improving access to contraception.

The refreshed LARC Service Hub is designed to continue to meet those needs identified by residents in engagement exercises. The Hub will provide training opportunities for local clinicians interested in becoming LARC Fitters and appointments for patients whose GP does not offer LARC services.

The Hub

  • The Hub is at Raleigh Gardens, 1a Brixton Hill, Brixton, London SW2 1AB.
  • Women in Lambeth will also have access to the MSI Central London LARC Clinic at 108 Whitfield Street, London W1T 5BE.
  • Consultations start on 3 February 2025; fitting and removal appointments will be available from 11 February.
