The young people on the programme, who were previously not in education, employment, or training, have joined a range of jobs and skills activities to build their future career paths taking part in internships, skills sessions and entrepreneurship courses to unlock their talents.
Councillor Marcia Cameron, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Economic Inclusion, said: “Lambeth is home to so many talented young people, and it’s vital that they have access to real opportunities in the creative and digital industries.
“Through Next Us, we are removing the barriers in their way – whether that’s financial struggles, lack of experience, or confidence. I have had the privilege of meeting some of the young people on this programme, and their passion, creativity, and determination are truly inspiring.
“We’re proud to support a programme that not only connects them to paid opportunities but also gives them the skills, support, and networks to build long-term careers.”
The next intake of Next Us is now open for applications via lambethnow.co.uk/next-us.
The council programme is a partnership between ELEVATE, which is opening up the creative and cultural sector for all young people, and Lambeth Made, which is running to help young people reach their full potential.
Under Next Us Lambeth Council’s Creative Link Workers connected the young people to:
- Creative bootcamps in music marketing, filmmaking, and digital marketing
- Paid internships (6 months) and work placements (20 hours) at London Living Wage
- English & math support to help boost essential skills
- Entrepreneurship programmes and career guidance
- A support fund to remove financial barriers to participation
The council’s Creative Link Workers provided one-to-one support, helped the young people build confidence, prepared them for interviews and helped them navigate their journey into work.
