Qualified to walk and talk about Lambeth

There’s a course taught at Morley College in Waterloo and accredited by Lambeth Tour Guides Association where you can learn about Lambeth past and present, skill up to share engaging and compelling stories and get experience of being a Tour Guide in Lambeth.  This is the ‘Become a Lambeth Tour Guide’ course.

In just four years since the Association was formed, Lambeth Guides have developed walks in South London, given talks to local societies, published a book about the women of Lambeth and recorded a series of podcasts in collaboration with Morley College Radio.

Graduates in 2025

After nine months of study, the Class of 2024-25 graduated in July and received their badges and certificates from Lambeth’s Mayor, Cllr Adrian Garden, at the Town Hall. These new guides are now leading walks around Brixton, Streatham and Vauxhall and will take part in Lambeth Heritage Month in September.

New graduate guide Diana said: “Now I’ve completed the course I feel I’m at the start of a journey. I’ve been given the tools and direction and I’m now on my way. I feel I’m part of a community of tour guides!”

Could you do the Lambeth Walk?

Fancy showing (and telling) people about the standouts, secrets, scandals and surprises of our diverse and historic borough and leading tours yourself?

Applications are now open for the course starting in September. The course combines Thursday evening study sessions at Morley with training walks across the Borough on selected Saturday mornings.

The curriculum includes Art & Architecture, Parks & Gardens, Housing & Welfare,  Sport & Entertainment, Transport and Politics. There are also guest lecturers on specialist areas such as Black History and insights from professional guides. Student visits in past years have included Backstage at the National Theatre, the International Maritime Organisation, Lambeth Palace Library and the Black Cultural Archives.

No previous experience required – just enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to learn as part of friendly and engaged group of learners, guided by an experienced teaching team from the Lambeth Tour Guides Association.
