Nearly every piece of plastic ever made still exists today in one form or another. Often it ends up polluting our oceans and harming wildlife which is why it’s important we recycle as much of it as we can.
Did you know? – If a year’s worth of the UK’s unrecycled plastic bottles were placed end to end, they’d reach around the world 31 times! Covering just over 780,000 miles.
Our homes are full of plastic bottles that often get missed when it comes to recycling. Empty bleach; shampoo; conditioner; bathroom cleaners and hand soap dispenser bottles can all be recycled.
Recycling – It’s worth it
We often put our plastic bottles, tubs and containers into the recycling bin without thinking about what happens to them. What we don’t realise is that plastics are recycled into everyday items that we use again and again. Every time a piece of plastic ends up in the rubbish bin, it’s a wasted opportunity. You could be wearing something right now which is made from recycled plastic items such as your football team’s shirt or your favourite hiking fleece.
Alongside recycling plastic items, we can go further and stop using plastic unnecessarily. Plastic items such as plastic bags and bottles are made to only be used once before being thrown away. If we replace these with reusable items, it’s much better for the environment and we have something personal to us.
Make a “No more plastic bags” pledge this Recycling Week
