Sailing to the dream

A young intrepid resident from West Norwood, Rianne Yeboah-Cornelius, 16  is setting her sights on sailing a Tall Ship on the first leg of the Tall Ships Regatta next spring, from Greenwich London – Sines Portugal, in spite of never having ever sailed in open water.

Rianne, an A Level student and Young resident of the Year finalist in this year’s Lambeth Community Pride Awards, has been selected to take part in the Sail Training experience and train as a crew member on-board one of the 40 international fleet of tall ships competing in the first leg of the Tall Ships race in April 2017. Can we help her make her dream come true?

“It’s a unique opportunity so I jumped at the chance to take part.  Sailing is quite an elitist sport and is not your typical pursuit associated with a young black female from the inner-city.  I wanted to challenge myself personally, whilst inspiring other young people – my age and younger to seize similar opportunities and challenge negative stereotypes.  I want to prove that “this girl can!” – Rianne Yeboah-Cornelius
