The plans for the two sites propose around 280 new homes, of which 40 per cent will be affordable, alongside workspace, new street market infrastructure, commercial space, and public realm improvements.
Lambeth Council owns the sites and has partnered with London Square to get the job done. Since May, two rounds of discussions have been held with the community to shape the proposals, with that feedback having been incorporated into the latest options being put to locals.
Councillor Danny Adilypour, Deputy Leader (Housing, Investment and New Homes) at Lambeth Council, said: “This regeneration scheme will redefine the future of Brixton Town Centre, so it’s essential that residents and the local community are part of this journey with us and feeding into making sure we get this scheme right.
“I am pleased to see the enthusiasm and real interest that this project has generated from the community groups and residents who have joined our various engagement groups, to the wider community that has attended our events over the last couple of months.
“The collective feedback is how we will make this project a success that works for your town centre, so I would encourage the local community to take part in the final phase of consultation now launched.”
Across the two phases of engagement which have included 16 local events so far, 752 residents, businesses, and community groups shared their views on the project, which have shaped the latest plans for the project. There have also been opportunities to engage with a wider local audience with events at Brixton Library and the local Atlantic Road Car Free Days, amongst others.
Feedback received so far has included better pedestrian experience and safety, flexibility in the public realm design to allow future spaces to adapt to changing needs and be inclusive for all.
The final stage of consultation launches today and runs until 31st October 2025, where there will be further opportunities to share feedback on the latest plans ahead of a planning application being submitted in November 2025.
