Almost 120 people have now moved into their new homes at Roman Rise under a Lambeth Council social housing development on the Central Hill estate which was completed over the summer.

The Roman Rise scheme is a 100 per cent social housing development completed by the council, and the homes were earmarked for Central Hill residents who required new and larger homes.

Gipsy Hill: New homes for over 100 residents

Councillor Danny Adilypour, Lambeth’s Deputy Leader (Housing, Investment and New Homes), said: “Every new home we deliver in Lambeth is a life transformed, and I am pleased to have seen how much this has truly benefited the Central Hill residents who have moved into their new council homes at Roman Rise.

“This project hasn’t been just about delivering new homes but improving residents’ lives for the future, with the inclusion of air source heat pumps for lower energy bills and cycle storage to enable active travel, job opportunities for residents, and growth in the local area.

“We will continue to do our best to deliver high-quality new social and affordable homes so that every resident has the chance to have a safe and secure home in Lambeth.”

The Roman Rise development features 31 homes ranging from one, two and three-bedroom apartments in two new five and seven-storey apartment buildings arranged around a large communal outdoor space designed to give residents somewhere to gather and socialise,

The brick building is arranged into two sections with the higher, seven-storey element positioned to create a new gateway into the wider existing estate.

Anna, a Roman Rise resident, said: “My previous home was riddled with mould, which was affecting my and my children’s health negatively. Our new home exceeds my expectations; everything is done to a really good standard and has given me and my family a new lease of life.”

The new homes were allocated to Central Hill residents through a Local Lettings Plan which prioritised those with the most needs already living on the Central Hill estate.

Alexis, another Roman Rise resident, added: “As a single mother, living in my previous home, I felt really lonely and depressed. Moving into my new home and community has made me so much happier and has motivated me to continue growing my business, which I am really pleased about.”
