The annual celebration is also an opportunity to thank the residents, volunteers and Friends of Parks groups who help keep them thriving.
With more than 70 public parks and green spaces, Lambeth is proud to be home to a range of much-loved open spaces that support stronger communities, rich biodiversity, and the health and wellbeing of all residents.
From tranquil gardens and woodlands to award-winning heritage parks, Lambeth’s parks are more than just green spaces; they are vital lifelines for community connection, urban wildlife, and public health.
Word from the Cabinet
Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Leisure and Sport, said:
“Our parks are the beating heart of our communities. They bring people together, support our mental and physical wellbeing, and provide essential habitats for wildlife. Love Parks Week is a celebration of everything our green spaces represent; community, biodiversity, and the joy of being outdoors.
“We’re also incredibly proud of our award-winning parks and the residents, volunteers, and staff who make them so special.”
A celebration of community and nature
As part of our commitment to making Lambeth a cleaner, greener borough, we are investing in improving parks and open spaces through the council’s Parks Capital Investment Plan, supporting inclusive access, sustainable drainage, biodiversity, and better play and sports facilities.
Award-winning excellence
With 26 Green Flag Award-winning parks and green spaces including the newly recognised Agnes Riley Gardens, Lambeth continues to lead the way in creating welcoming, safe, and sustainable public spaces for all.
It is also a testament to the borough’s commitment to excellence in park management and community involvement. The awards, administered by Keep Britain Tidy, recognise parks that meet the highest standards of environmental quality, safety, and accessibility.
Health and wellbeing
Lambeth’s parks play a crucial role in promoting health and wellbeing. Studies show that access to green space can reduce stress, improve mood, and encourage physical activity. In a borough as diverse and dynamic as Lambeth, these spaces are essential for creating inclusive, resilient communities.
Get involved
Throughout Love Parks Week, residents are encouraged to explore their local parks, share their favourite green moments on social media using #LoveParksWeek and #WildLambeth, and get involved with local Friends of Parks groups.
