The new homes development across two buildings features one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, all to be let at social level rents and also includes five wheelchair accessible homes.
Speaking at the completion event with project partners, Councillor Claire Holland, the Leader of Lambeth Council, said: “Delivering high-quality, affordable homes is the council’s top priority. “The housing crisis is hitting Lambeth and other London boroughs incredibly hard, meaning there are not enough homes for residents, leaving too many of our most vulnerable residents in often sub-standard temporary accommodation.
“We are exhausting every possible avenue to build new homes quickly. Thanks to our partnership with Places for London, this 100% social rent development will provide nearly 150 Lambeth residents with modern, energy-efficient homes.
“This is exactly the kind of partnership and ambition we need more of. I look forward to seeing more developments like this in the coming years as we work with our housing partners to tackle this crisis head-on.”
Jonathan Cornelius, Head of Property Development at Places for London, said: “We are delighted to have worked with Lambeth Council to complete these fabulous homes at Fenwick Estate, helping address London’s housing crisis. Fenwick Estate is a great example of how two public bodies can come together to deliver the high-quality homes that London urgently needs.”
Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development, Tom Copley, said: “I’m delighted to see these new social rent homes now ready for Londoners who have been on housing waiting lists and living in temporary accommodation. The Mayor and I are determined to deliver even more of these genuinely affordable, high-quality, well-connected developments as we continue working to build a better, greener, fairer London for everyone.”
The new homes at Fenwick South have been built to the very high standards that Lambeth Council aims to deliver on new housing developments, while delivering economic benefits for the local community. Throughout the project, 16 new jobs were created for Lambeth residents, along with 21 skills opportunities, including apprenticeships and work experience for younger people.
All the homes at Fenwick South, which are ready to move into now, benefit from spacious balconies and windows, along with energy-efficient features like solar panels, centralised boilers in each block and heat interface units in each home; and secure cycle storage to promote active travel. The site is also located close to Clapham North station on the Northern line, as well as a range of bus routes along Clapham Road, making it well located for public transport.
Alongside the 46 homes at Fenwick South, Lambeth Council has also recently completed 31 new Council homes in Norwood on the Central Hill estate, and there are a further 27 new affordable homes expected to be delivered at the Fenwick Place development later this year.
