The initiative creates an anonymous opportunity to surrender knives and other bladed weapons, helping to reduce violence in the community. The event was led by anti-knife crime campaigner and youth advocate Faron Alex Paul, who was present to provide guidance and support to those surrendering weapons.
Lambeth’s Youth Outreach Service was also on-site, offering information about local support services and engaging with residents seeking help or advice.
Word from the cabinet
Cllr Dr. Mahamed Hashi, Lambeth Council’s Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, said:
“We were pleased to have joined the Home Office’s National Weapons Surrender Scheme because it created an opportunity to safely dispose of knives and prevent further harm in our community.
“This initiative supports our wider commitment to reducing violence affecting young people, building on partnerships like the Mayor of London’s Violence Reduction Unit and the Reducing Robbery Programme.
“Our ongoing work with the VRU, as well as initiatives that empower young people and their families, is vital in creating a safer, stronger Lambeth.”
This event formed a key part of Lambeth’s ongoing commitment to tackling violence affecting young people. It aligns with the ambitions set out in the Lambeth Multi-Agency Strategy (LMS) and the Safer Lambeth Partnership (SLP), which guide the borough’s community safety efforts.
Outreach
The event complemented a range of youth justice and outreach efforts, including projects supported by the London Crime Prevention Fund and co-produced campaigns with local students to promote safe travel and access to support services.
