Lambeth: Helping young people into apprenticeships

Lambeth Council has coordinated the events to mark National Apprenticeship Week from February 9 to February 15 and to showcase the borough’s wide range of skills and employment opportunities.

Business breakfast

Lambeth Town Hall will host a business breakfast with major developers and contractors on the Tuesday to highlight the importance of supporting residents with additional needs, and showcase practical strategies for employers to ensure all residents have access to upcoming apprenticeship.

Kennington Job Centre will hold a jobs fair put on by the Department for Work and Pensions alongside the council on the Thursday to help residents apply for existing apprenticeships and to also meet potential employers.

At local schools during National Apprenticeship Week sessions covering being a professional in the workplace, health and science career insights and networking with potential employers will be held during the week.

Word from the Cabinet

Cllr Marcia Cameron, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Economic Inclusion, said: “We are committed to creating the opportunities for all our residents to build the careers they need to meet their aims and aspirations in life.

“We know that barriers remain, and that its harder for some in our communities to get the chance to secure the apprenticeships, the training and the job opportunities we have here in Lambeth.

“But we are committed to dismantling these barriers, making sure all our residents have the chance to get secure, well paid work. For some of our young people an apprenticeship is a great way of doing just that, which is why we are committed to celebrating National Apprenticeship Week.

“It’s important to say that while the week is a useful opportunity to highlight apprenticeships, this is work that goes on throughout the year at the council.

“We work throughout the year with our public sector partners like the NHS, our council contractors and the big private sector employers in Lambeth to secure opportunities for our residents, especially those experiencing disadvantage.”
