The new Good Parks for London report ranks Lambeth Council as having the capital’s third highest performing parks service when assessed against 10 different criteria including quality and sustainability.
The Good Parks for London charity’s report recognises and celebrates innovation and best practice, aiming to inspire improvements in the quality and management of green spaces across the capital.
Meeting the standard
This year’s report scores the 25 participating London boroughs against 10 different criteria, which also includes public satisfaction, collaboration, events, health fitness and wellbeing, supporting nature, community involvement and strategic planning.
Lambeth scored 52.75 out of a possible overall 60 points, and is highlighted as an outstanding example under “quality standards” for using the charity’s Green Space Quality Manual to guide its work.
Since 2022 the manual has been the council’s way of consistently assessing and benchmarking the quality of Lambeth’s parks and open spaces. This has seen the team carry out weekly inspections in seven key area including planting, trees and woodland, grassland, grass sports surfaces, play and sports, infrastructure, and water bodies and features.
Word from the Cabinet
Cllr Fred Cowell and Cllr Nanda Manley-Browne, Lambeth’s Cabinet Members for Equalities, Governance & Change said: “This recognition is hard earnt and well deserved for the efforts put into managing our highly valued parks and green spaces.
“This report builds on what Lambeth has already achieved in terms for its success when it comes to the Green Flag Awards and London in Bloom awards to ensure Lambeth meets, or exceeds, award-winning standards.”
