Lambeth has long been one of the UK’s most vibrant centres of LGBTQ+ life, activism and culture, and the council is committed to both marking and celebrating this legacy, the progress that has been made, and continuing the push for equity and justice.
The borough is hosting a series of readings, talks, film screenings and more during the month. For more information and booking opportunities are on eventbrite.com.
Cllr David Bridson, Lambeth’s Cabinet Members for Healthier Communities (job share), said: “We’re proud that Lambeth has London’s biggest LGBTQ+ population and have pledged to work as a borough to tackle the biggest challenges the community faces.
“Part of those efforts are reflected in our annual LGBTQ+ History Month programme which works to build understanding, unity and cohesion.
“Much progress has been made in achieving equality for our LGBTQ+ communities. But we’re clear there is still much to do, including tackling hate crime, ensuring equal access to public services as well as celebrating all that has been achieved.
“The activities planned for the month ahead play an important role in that goal, and I’d encourage as many residents as possible to join in.”
