Word from the Cabinet
Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Leisure and Sports, said:
“Since bringing leisure centres in house at Lambeth Council we have made our sports and activities offer get better and more accessible for all our residents. That’s across the piece, from swimming and gyms, to fitness classes and football pictches.
“We have also expanded the family friendly leisure opportunities at our leisure centres, and the new bowling alley at Brixton Rec compliments the big investment we’ve made at this Brixton town centre site, and across Lambeth.
“Our ongoing investment in Lambeth’s leisure centres supports our aims to create a borough where everyone can thrive, stay active, and feel welcome. So, whether you’re a first-time bowler or a seasoned pro, we can’t wait to see you at the new bowling alley, or any of our other centres.”
Active Lambeth, the council’s leisure service covers eight leisure facilities across the borough with the aim of boosting local people’s opportunities to access sport and leisure. It was launched in April 2023 and the council has invested in refurbishing the leisure centres to create new and improved health and wellbeing options for local people, while keeping services flexible and affordable.
The new bowling alley, called Active Bowling, opened today (8 August).
