Lambeth: Ofsted praises adult learning services

Ofsted – the national Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills – visited Lambeth Council’s Adult Learning Service at the end of February this year and have released their inspection report today (Tuesday, 1 April).

Their overall conclusion was that Lambeth Council ‘continues to be a good provider’ and that because the council has set up its adult learning courses in the community there are lots of opportunities for them to access important other support services.

Councillor Marcia Cameron, Lambeth Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Inclusion, said: “This council is wholeheartedly dedicated to empowering our residents to develop the skills necessary for securing well-paying jobs, enabling them to provide for their families and contribute to our ambitious growth agenda for the borough.

“Our adult learning service is vital to achieving this vision, and I am thrilled that this Ofsted inspection highlights the exceptional quality of provision that I have witnessed in my Cabinet role.

“While we celebrate our achievements, we recognize that there is always room for improvement. This inspection offers us invaluable insights to further elevate our adult learning services, and we are fully committed to that journey.”

The council’s Adult Learning Service provides adult learning courses funded by the Greater London Authority which are run by community partners, and teaching takes place in a wide range of community-based venues across the borough, including children’s centres, community hubs and libraries.

At the time of the inspection more than 750 local people enrolled on council organised courses, with two thirds on tailored learning courses across a range of subjects including maths, English, family learning, health and well-being, digital skills, creative skills. In total since August last year more than 2,000 residents have studied with the service.
