Lambeth: Summer event applications

The application proposes an exciting series of festivals at the park in late May and early June, and if approved could help ensure the council can keep the much-loved Lambeth Country Show going due to potential savings that could be achieved, cutting the cost from £1million to an estimated £300,000.

The proposal would also deliver the free Brockwell Bounce community festival and sees Brockwell Live taking responsibility for the facilities, planning and post event clean-up. The proposed events series would be completed before the school summer holidays to ensure the whole of Brockwell Park is open for our communities.

Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, said: “The proposed events would give our younger people fun and culturally rich events, as well as potentially help cross fund south London’s flagship free community festival, the Lambeth Country Show.

“Our events programme is a big draw, increasing footfall to the area and potentially providing a big boost to local businesses at a time when high streets have struggled, especially smaller traders.

“So I would encourage local people to attend these listening sessions to give feedback, help shape the events programme and have your say on the proposals before a final decision is made.”

The first community meetings, run by Brockwell Live, will be on Monday 17, February. There will be an afternoon and evening session at 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning in Railton Road, Herne Hill from 4pm to 5.30pm. The second session will be from 6.30pm to 8pm and will feature a presentation followed by an opportunity to ask questions.

Further dates will follow.
