To vote in the Mayor of London and London Assembly elections on 2 May 2024, you must register to vote before midnight, Tuesday 16 April.
Voters in the London Borough of Lambeth will choose who they want to represent them as:
- The Mayor of London
- The Lambeth and Southwark Assembly Member on the London Assembly
- London-wide Assembly Members.
You’ll receive three ballot papers – one for each of the contests above.
This Mayor of London contest was previously conducted under the supplementary voting system, which allowed voters to cast two votes in this contest. This contest is now conducted under a first-past-the-post system, and voters will only be able to vote for one candidate.
As part of the new legislation that was introduced in the Elections Act 2022, all polling station voters must show an accepted form of Voter ID to vote.
What is voter ID?
Voter ID refers to accepted forms of photo ID that polling station voters must present to polling station staff before receiving their ballot papers.
Accepted forms of Voter ID include:
- Passport issued by the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, EEA state or Commonwealth country
- UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or EEA Driving Licence
- Biometric Immigration Document
- ID card bearing Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (a Pass Card)
- Ministry of Defence Form 90 (Defence Identity Card)
- A Blue Badge
- A National Identity Card issued by an EEA state
- An Older Person’s Bus Pass
- A Disabled Person’s Bus Pass
- An Oyster 60+ Card
- A Freedom Pass
Only original documents will be accepted. An expired photo ID will be accepted as long as the photograph still looks like the holder. The name stated on your ID must be the same name that you used to register to vote.
What if I don’t have photo ID?
If you don’t have an acceptable form of photographic ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate from Lambeth’s Electoral Services team. The Voter Authority Certificate is a secure, paper A4 document which will contain your name and photograph. A Voter Authority Certificate cannot be used as a means of identification for any purpose other than voting at a polling station.

The deadline to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate for use in these elections is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April.
What if I do not receive my Voter Authority Certificate in time for polling day?
If you have applied for a Voter Authority Certificate before 5pm on Wednesday 24 April and have not received it by polling day, please contact the Electoral Services helpline on 020 7926 2254 to arrange for a Temporary Voter Authority Certificate to be issued.
You will need to collect this from Lambeth Town Hall for use on polling day by 10pm.

Check you have the right ID in time for polling day. If you do not possess an accepted form of photo ID, apply for a Voter Authority Certificate as soon as possible.
