Update: Fire at Julian’s Primary School, Streatham

The fire started shortly after midnight and was eventually brought under control by the London Fire Brigade. At the height of the response, 10 fire engines, a fire rescue unit, and an aerial appliance were deployed.

The building has suffered significant damage, including to approximately 40 per cent of the roof at the rear of the school. Some 50 per cent of the whole building sustained water damage, primarily due to the sprinklers being activated. The entire Streatham site is unusable due to the damage, and for health and safety reasons.

Unfortunately, this means that the site will be closed for the week beginning Monday, 1 September at a minimum. The Streatham children will therefore not be able to return to school as scheduled, on Wednesday 3rd September.

The council and the school leadership are working together as a matter of urgency on alternative plans. We will update with further details in due course.

Further information, when available, will also be provided on the Julian’s Primary School website.
