Waterloo Foodbank summer appeal beats crowdfunding target

Waterloo Foodbank exists to ensure no one in Waterloo goes hungry.

Even with parents/carers working hard finding the money to provide three meals and snacks per day for six weeks is too much for many local families. In August, the Foodbank set a crowdfunder target of £5,000 to help feed families in Waterloo so they could enjoy the school holidays and put an end to children returning to school in September undernourished, tired and with poor mental health.

By early September, with community donations matched by £2,500 in support from Crowdfund Lambeth,  Waterloo Foodbank’s summer project had raised £9,345 with 44 supporters – with donations still coming in in October.

Where donations go

  • £5 pays for a family evening meal
  • £10 provides breakfast, lunch and dinner for a family
  • £50 can feed a family for seven days
  • £500 to feed a family for the school holidays

Summer and winter

Waterloo Foodbank said:

“This summer we provided 4250 food parcels including feeding 1471 children. Numbers have increased since last summer and we know it will continue to do so, especially as we head into winter.

“We’re extremely grateful to everyone who donated to our crowdfunder, it has made a huge difference and meant that children and families in the local community have returned to school fed and ready to learn. Going into the winter season, we need help more now than ever. Families are having to choose between heating or feeding their children.”
