Our last edition of 2014 shines a spotlight on Streatham as we revisit this area and take a look at some of its successes including Streatham Leisure and Ice Centre and Streatham Hub. We also hear from Hitherfield Primary School who recently created Lambeth’s first edible playground and the Streatham Youth and Community Trust who provide services for young people in the area. See pages 11 -14.

With the days and nights getting colder we provide a few useful tips for keeping warm and well in the winter. And a local health and beauty professional shares her winter survival tips. See pages 6-7.

It’s Small Business Saturday on 6 December and there are lots of local businesses in Lambeth that you can support by shopping locally. On pages 8- 9 some of Lambeth’s ‘best of business’ award winners explain why Small Business Saturday matters so much.

With Christmas just a few weeks away our thoughts turn to what we can give to others. On page 18 we share a few volunteering ideas with you to get you started. On page 19 we introduce the Brixton Soup Kitchen who provides a warm and friendly environment to homeless people. They tell their story and how you can help support them.

In our regular What’s on guide we list some of the reasons why you should shop locally. There are so many Christmas fairs and markets taking place in the run-up to Christmas as well as festive events and activities to suit a range of interests. And most are free! See pages 20 -22.
