Lambeth marches at Pride 2024

On 29 June , Lambeth staff, councillors and allies, including Fiona Connolly, Executive Sponsor of Lambeth LGBTQ+ Staff Forum and Acting Chief Executive, marched from Hyde Park to Whitehall to celebrate Pride in the LGBTQ+ community.

Representation

Lambeth received official recognition in the 2021 Census as the borough with London’s largest LGBTQ+ population. Our staff wore matching T-shirts so Lambeth residents could see themselves represented on the march.

Lambeth’s Acting Chief Executive Fiona Connolly said: “This is only the second time that  Lambeth, as a council, marched at Pride in London. This year’s Pride was bigger and better as we had a Lambeth float featured for the first time.

Commitment to communities

“Lambeth has a  rich history and commitment for  advocacy and support of the LGBTQ+ community. Our commitment is to all our communities, to work together to tackle inequality. We will continue to celebrate the richness of diversity across Lambeth – which in turn gives us strength to successfully deliver our objectives and to achieve lasting  cultural change.

Participation

“I’d like to thank, in particular, our LGBTQ+ staff Forum chairs, for all their hard work behind the scenes in making our participation in this year’s Pride a reality.  I would also like to thank our photographer on the day, and the many councillors, staff and their family and friends for making it such a special and proud occasion.

“Our presence at this year’s Pride was significant and put us in the heart of the parade. I am delighted that Lambeth continues to build such strong partnerships, and we continue to take strategic action to help celebrate inclusion and dismantle discrimination whilst constantly working to change cultural attitudes that allow ongoing discrimination to exist.

The Home of Pride

“Lambeth is the home of Pride, we look forward to celebrating next year’s Pride  We will stand with our communities in Lambeth, not only to ensure that everyone is able to have a good quality of life, but also to fight for the justice they deserve.”
