The strategy builds on the Waterloo Station Masterplan completed in 2024, and its findings will feed into the upcoming Lambeth Local Plan review.
This initial stage will provide a clear understanding of both the current and future community space needs locally, as well as an understanding of what infrastructure already exists, and how this is experienced by local people. This includes those places that play an important role in supporting community life by providing opportunities for learning, culture, recreation, social connection and support, including community centres, libraries, leisure spaces, health centres and GPs.
Alongside the surveys for residents and community space operators that will run until 23 September 2026, the Council will be launching a programme of community engagement to ensure that this work is rooted in local knowledge and experience.
This will include bespoke activities with children and young people, and discussions and thematic workshops across the area which will take place throughout October. The findings from this first stage will help create an evidence base that can guide future planning, investment and decision-making, ensuring that community infrastructure continues to support local communities in the long term.
The consultation is open to residents and anyone with a connection to Waterloo and South Bank about their experience of community provision in the area, what they use, what is most valued and what might be missing from the area.
