Lambeth celebrates Pride Month and backs LGBTQ+ communities

Events are being held at a range of locations across Lambeth during June, including at cinemas, libraries, online and council leisure centres. They include Bowling with Pride! at Brixton Rec on June 15 and a council led Lambeth Pride Reception on June 30.

Cllr Martin Abrams, the Leader of Lambeth Council, said: “This month is a key opportunity to reflect on both the struggles and successes of LGBTQ+ people in Lambeth, and to reaffirm our commitment to equality and inclusion.

“Despite huge progress made towards achieving equality we know that we need to be united as a borough to ensure Lambeth’s journey toward bringing Pride ‘home’ continues, and that we must maintain the momentum we have built.”

The Lambeth Pride Reception from 6pm will be held at Brockwell Hall in Brockwell Park and will feature entertainment, drinks and information stalls for residents from our partners and allies. To book a place at the event visit tickettailor.com.

  • What I Now Know (But I Didnt Know Then), Lambeth Archives, 16 Brixton Hill (all through June) – Photography and an oral history project shining a light on older LGBTQ+ lives and stories from South London.
  • Readers and Writers Zine Fair, Brixton Library, June 13 featuring a selection of LGBTQ+ highlights.

Cllr Natalie Kane, Lambeth’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Inclusion, Democracy and Culture, said: “Lambeth is proud to be home to London’s biggest LGBTQ+ community, and the events this month honour that status.

“Our Pride Month activities build on our commitment to celebrate our LGBTQ+ communities throughout the year, including our month-long celebration for LGBTQ+ History Month every February and the range of inclusive events we host.”
