The Nature of Change: A Lambeth Adult Learning Showcase exhibition is being held at the 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning in Herne Hill and at Photofusion in Brixton from August 7 until September 18.
The exhibitions feature a collection of artwork by talented locals who have completed Lambeth Adult Learning courses as part of the STEP-UP programme run by the galleries. The Step Up programme is for Lambeth residents who are over-19 and unemployed, low-waged or retired and features 10 week free courses in photography, art and design, filmmaking and LGBTQ+ photography.
Cllr Marcia Cameron, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Economic Inclusion, said: “We want to help create opportunities for those who need it most to develop news skills, increase their employability and improve their well-being. This programme meets that aim and this exhibition is a chance for everyone in Lambeth to witness the creativity and commitment of those who took part.
“I congratulate the people with pieces in the exhibition for their efforts, and would encourage local people to attend the show which is a great way of supporting those who have taken part.”
The Lambeth Adult Learning programme has been completed by more than 300 learners since 2019, offering an opportunity to explore and progress in various creative disciplines.
Ten-week courses are run three times a year at both locations and feature practical workshops and mentoring. They help participants develop new skills, connect with peers, and introduces them to industry professionals in preparation for a career in the arts.
