This significant investment is part of the Council’s broader £10 million plan aimed at modernising leisure facilities while supporting financial sustainability and increased community engagement.
This exciting revamp will transform Active Lambeth leisure centres into vibrant spaces for fun, fitness and relaxation, offering residents and visitors a wide range of activities, building a more active future for Lambeth.
The £1.1 million investment isn’t just about new facilities, it’s also part of Lambeth’s broader strategy to achieve £1.95 million in savings by 2028. By attracting more visitors through upgraded facilities, the Council aims to generate additional income that will be reinvested in services for the community. This project aligns with the Lambeth 2030 Borough Plan, which focuses on creating healthier, happier neighbourhoods for residents.

Planned Improvements across Lambeth:
Brixton Recreation Centre
- £330,000 for new tenpin bowling lanes
- £60,000 to introduce VR multi-sports rooms
- £30,000 to enhance the reception area with a new café
- £50,000 to refurbish the pool lounge area
- £35,000 to renovate the sports hall flooring
Ferndale Community Sports Centre
- £250,000 for a new mini golf facility
- £30,000 to upgrade the air conditioning system
Streatham Leisure Centre
- £30,000 to expand the Ice Café, enhancing service on event days
- £30,000 for an expanded children’s soft play area
- £100,000 for a new sauna and spa treatment room
West Norwood Health and Leisure Centre
- £30,000 for a new café
- £40,000 to improve spin cycling facilities
Padel Tennis Facility
- A new dedicated Padel tennis facility, coming soon
Project timelines
Work on these exciting upgrades is expected to start in September 2024, with completion expected during the 2024/25 financial year. The Council will prioritise environmental sustainability and community engagement throughout the works.
