Car Free Day comes to Streatham this year

The day will demonstrate how public space can be used more inclusively for the wider community than just as a motorway and car park. The council will also use this opportunity to let locals have their say on both the Mayor’s Quietway running from Waterloo to Croydon and the proposed Neighbourhood Enhancement Programme in the area.

Encouraging cycling and walking over sedentary travel is particularly important at the moment with the startling numbers of obese children and the shocking levels of air pollution. Adding a bit of active travel into your day will improve health, decrease carbon emissions and in many cases save time and money.

Find the Lambeth Sustainable Travel stall on the day to discuss schemes such as Try Before You Bike and cycle training. Don’t forget that if you have a bike to sell you can bring it on the day and also buy a quality second hand one for you or your child at the fabulous Lambeth Bike Market which tours schools and is being showcased this year at Car Free Day.

We will see you on Saturday 26 September between 12-4pm for lots of fun with a chance to get your views across.

Try before you bike – our scheme that enables you to borrow a bike for £10 for 4 weeks and see how it fits into your life. There’s also lots of support and the option to buy the bike at a reduced cost at the end of the period.

Dr Bike – Bring your bike for a free check up. Professional bike mechanics will fix what they can in the allotted time.

Bike markets – Sell an old bike, buy a second-hand one. Lambeth Bike Markets visit schools before their cycle training courses. We also hold bike markets at special events such as at the Lambeth Country Show and during the Streatham Car Free Day.
