One borough, many nations…Lambeth unites for World Cup

As a borough with a proud sporting culture, the council continues to champion inclusive participation in sport and physical activity at all levels from grassroots community initiatives to supporting elite performance.

Feel the World Cup buzz at our Active Lambeth centres

Active Lambeth, the council’s leisure provider, is playing a key role in bringing residents together during the tournament, offering a range of activities across its centres designed to capture the World Cup atmosphere while encouraging people to stay active.

We’re celebrating with live screenings, fitness challenges and friendly competition throughout the tournament, giving residents plenty of ways to get involved.

Activities at a glance

At Clapham Leisure Centre, visitors can enjoy live World Cup screenings during opening hours. England matches that run past closing time will be transformed into special £5 ticketed events, with drinks available. Tickets can be booked at the centre’s reception.

At Flaxman Sports Centre and West Norwood Health and Leisure Centre, live screenings will take place in the gym spaces throughout the tournament, alongside a World Cup Fitness Challenge designed to inspire participation and friendly rivalry.

The challenge includes:

  • Class attendance – encouraging participants to log their country and attend as many classes as possible
  • Represent your country leaderboard – where gym users can record their squat challenge and push-up reps
  • Group stage prediction competition – giving residents the chance to test their football knowledge

 Word from the Cabinet

Cllr Natalie Kane, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Inclusion, Democracy and Culture, said: “The World Cup is more than just football. It’s about community and bringing people together. Alongside the excitement, we will be ensuring that our communities remain welcoming, inclusive and safe for everyone.

“In Lambeth, we’re proud to support sport at every level and to create opportunities for residents to get active, connect and celebrate moments like this together. We wish England every success in the tournament and look forward to seeing our communities come together to enjoy it.”

Whether watching the matches, taking part in challenges or supporting their national team, residents are encouraged to make Active Lambeth part of their World Cup experience. Residents can find out more about activities and events at Active Lambeth by visiting active.lambeth.gov.uk.
